NEVER, BUT NEVER ASK FOR PERMISSION, JUST DO IT. Why give anyone that kind of power over you?
+1 It's much better to ask forgiveness that permission, at least that way you've had your fun.
My last dog was like that. She knew better than to run off and get in trouble, but somehow when she came back with her head hanging with that "I know I did wrong look" I got the impression she figured it was worth it.
