Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Feeding Bojo Fishing Light

Randy, Travis...anyone else use these with success? I love the concept, and could sit around seemingly for hours watching the fish feeding - but anyone have real experience and are willing to lend their opinions? My guess is this is more of a luxury item and isn't probably doing much in terms of impacting the food chain...but still seems very cool - and a little sinister, which I like even more.

I'm always looking for feedback on the green monster too...again, seems more esthetic than anything else, but am eager for any feedback.

My dad's friend has a couple bug lights on his dock(I believe they are Bojos too). He also uses an underwater green light which attracts the fish(not a green monster). I can say that I do see different species of fish utilizing the bugs that are killed. Most of the bugs killed are larger in size, like beetles, moths, etc... They are attracted to the light the most it seems. In the glow of the green light, you can see multiple sunfish just hovering waiting for a meal. When a bug hits the water it's a mad dash for who ever gets there first. The most common fish I see eating the bugs that get whacked are BG. I have also seen LMB and crappie. Some of the hottest action is when the May beetles are coming out in large numbers. At that point the BG are literally round like baseballs with so many beetles in their bellies.

The beetles and moths certainly are not a replacement for feed though... Does it feed the fish some extra food? Sure... It's more of a novelty type thing IMO though.

As far as green lights, I don't have any experience with the green monster. Too pricey for me, but I have used the cheaper versions. My dad uses them on his dock, but it is bracksih water. Absolutely amazing results! A friend of mine from work has a family vacation home on a local lake with a dock. They do have a green monster light. It does suck the gizzard shad in. It also attracts bass, sunfish, crappie, walleye and stripers. The walleys and stripers just sit on the edge of the light picking off baitfish. My dad's friend has a green light on his dock and as mentioned it does attract the fish in as well.

I would buy a green light of some kind if I had a dock to mount it to.

Seriously though - that's some positive feedback. I often sit by the fires in my great room for hours at a time watching the flames and feeding the fire...something tells me this could be just as addictive, if not more so. I think these lights are definitely going to find a home in my ponds.

No stock... HAHA For the novelty, I think they are cool. I can sit for hours watching the bugs meet their fate. If you got the cash and want the entertainment value buy one, but don't expect to grow big BG because of it... Like anything, it seemed to take the fish a while to figure out there was a free meal there.

Bob Lusk has an underwater light (Green Monster or equivalent). It is very cool to watch the fish circle around in the light. Although I have no basis in fact for this thought (when has that ever stopped me from posting), it seems to me that something like a Bojo light would play a very different role than something like a Green Monster light.

TJ, as Greg said, the BOJO won't replace feeding, but is a nice snack for the fish. It took my fish a while to get use to it and still don't hang out like it appears they do at a green light, but they do nail anything that is knocked to the surface. I want to get one of those green lights some day - really sound like a good way to relax w/beer and lawn chair.

This is good stuff. I think I'm sold. Jeff, one of these might look nice when you build the fortress on your pond? Maybe we could communicate telepathically staring into the orb?

Randy - my thoughts exactly...sounds like a really nice way to enjoy sittin for a spell. Is your light okay following the 40 yr flood in GA? I sure hope everyone is safe and sound following that deluge. Thoughts are out to you my friend.

TJ, don't know if my BOJO will make it or not. I'm drying out the TH fish feeder (water got up into key pad, but I think it might be ok). My 2" trash pump had more water than oil in the oil tank and my riding mower that I left down by the pond is back running again.
So for me everything is fine. Sadly there were a couple of deaths about 15 miles away due to the flooding. Very sad for families involved.

That was a lot of rain!

Watching the fish swim around was great. Bob has a 3.5 pound Tilapia that cruises around, very cool.

you guys know we sell both of these right. They are both very cool although at this point sold more bojo than greenmonster. I told Aaron Matos I would drop green monster price for 50' cord from $240 to $220 just an fyi for any PBer.

Randy let us know if you can;t get BOJO working. So far three flooded TX Hunter and three working again.

Greg, TH feeder is working. Won't know about BOJO for a couple of days - going out of town.
