Not sure of your design, but if you increase the force pushing the food down this would solve the issue. you could do this by increasing the weight of the dry food pushing down (ie more pvc length out of the water) I would add more length and therefore increase the force pushing down. I would also increase diameter of pvc to increase the flow and decrease "friction" issues. Methinks thou art an engineer.
