I found this on another website regarding bears in Alaska. I thought it was pretty funny.

I remember a story in the old Barkeater magazine when a well known guide, Tony Deppe was asked by a client if he should carry his pistol. (In Alaska) Tony said "yes, but make sure you file the front sight off". Thinking it was because it made it easier to draw his gun he asked why would you file it off? Tony replied, "so that it won't hurt so bad when the bear shoves that pistol up your ***".
