Mobetter. Great looking place! I'm liking the river rock. Great I'd seriously consider adding it over my limestone if it ever needs replenished. I also like your beach a lot too.

So I'm wondering, "Where'd he get the miniature beer can?"

Nice looking rocks!

My 1.2 acre pond is built on limestone bedrock >90' thick. Solid red clay sides. We blasted a deep hole (40' x 90' x 12' deep = 1 drill rod)in the bedrock then hoped it would hold water... I did. First pic is about a week after the blast (we have great 35mm shots). An 80,000lb hoe was used to load the 6wd offroad dumptruck. We put down woven monofilament fabric beneath all the rock on the shore. Pinched the fabric under by crawler bucket and the 6wd truck backed up the slope and dumped. Spread by the hoe after that. Due to the rock size and depth (>1' in most places) and that it goes to the bottom, we haven't had any sliding. We haven't had any goose, muskrat, or otter problems either even though neighboring ponds are plagued by them. The pile of rock is exactly how it landed after the blast. There is 13' beneath the water too.

The rocks are a blessing and pain all in one. Blessings mentioned above. Yes it is fairly easy to keep the shoreline weeds under control by pulling or a little ShoreClear, but even after four years the rocks are very hazardous to walk on as they constantly shift underfoot. They are also a hazard when swimming as the edges are sharp. Wish they were river rocks like in the other posts. The underwater weeds still grow fine and are hard to remove when there are rocks. Overall, I'm glad I have the rock,sometimes more than others.

The excavator dug a shelf around the edge and used grey/blue #2 limestone. I found tham really sharp and tough on the feet also. The round river rock are still no picnic for my old feet. But the base of sharp stone really helped nest the more rounded river rock.


Your pond is so cool. do you have any pics of full pool?

Wow, I never realized how much grief and money I saved by planting emergent plants around my pond. Great fish and wildlife habitat too, and no geese problems. My floating dock and a few kayaks solve swimming and fishing issues. To each his own though.

RAH, when there is only one place on the property for a pond, ones options are rather limited. When you really want a pond and there is springs and bedrock at 2-6' in said only place, you either give up on the dream or deal with what you've been dealt. When you have hundreds of CuYds of rock to remove from your only deep hole (which was blasted), you either pay to haul it away, or use it. Wish I could have sold it, but there are two quarries within 1.5 miles. There are many days I wish it could have been a simple hole without the complexities we faced. Still glad we did it. About the only thing that can pry the kids out of the swimming hole is a fishing rod. Priceless.

Wow! That pond is gorgeous. I absolutely love the rock work... That swimming beach is excellent as well! The water clarity/color is gorgeous!!! I saw you stocked SMB and YP last year, what other species of fish do you have in there? Do the SMB seem to be liking all that rock?

Great use of rock guys and sand. Nice ponds as well. The SMB will like the rock - a big plus.

Do you have enough pics (and time) to create your own thread with a creation storyline? The blasting thing really makes your project unique and would surely be of interest to all of us (particularly Tom G). I would love to see a detailed summary of your project!
