Thankfully I live close to Bob and have had the pleasure to meet him. I stocked my BG in Sept. of 2008 and my bass in June. I put in 50 Florida's and 50 Native. I had a big Gam spawn in the spring and they are about gone thanks to these hungry LMB. It's now mid August and I have seen 7" bass from stocking 2" in June. I can't believe they are growing so fast!

That new pond start up growth spurt is often very impressive.

So did you get the fish through Bob?

So is the pond a LMB and BG (and Gam) pond?

Anything else in the pond?

What are your goals for the pond?

Bob is a great guy, very fun to be around. Oh and don't be such a stranger, we're relatively friendly here.

Sorry about being a stranger. I'm on the site from time to time, but work is killing me right now.

I started out a BG and LMB pond. I lined the pond originally by rolling out round bales to stop the erosion. We are in a heavy red clay area and the dozer guy would not leave any timber in the area.

So I basically ended up with a 1.5 acre at full pool pond. Depth goes down to 15 ft. when full. It finally filled this spring after two years. I did not stock until last fall (or until I got some water). It's down maybe 3 ft. since spring, but holding water great. It started out a chocolate milk color, but it's green now and has a clarity of maybe 3 ft. I think I'm lucky here.

I have not had vegetation growth started yet as the red clay is hard to grow anything in. My suspition is that after some decomposition, I'll start getting some vegetation growth. I have not done any fertilization or gypsum treatment. I don't think I need to. Fish are healthy and growing great.

The Gams started as I put a few more bales around the bank. As the bass started growing, the Gam population has really gone down. All the big Gams are few and far between, but I have BG from 1" to 7" so I believe the BG will give the bass what they need.

I will probably start areation next spring. Chad (who works for Bob) told me that I could get by without areation until next year. This year I'm enjoying watching my fish grow as I feed them on a nightly basis.

This hobby is addicting.

I wondered why my cows were getting strange packages delivered from the Left Coast.

Oh the SPEW....

It's operational [the Deathstar] and we are currently field testing a new weapon. It's our Sonic Puke-Eruption Weapon (SPEW for short). One sonic blast and the victim has an immediate episode of projectile vomiting. It took us a while to get the beam focused, and once again I apologize to all of the 261 residents of Sand City, California, but it now appears to be fully functional and ready for deployment.

Sadly we had to scrap the SPEW. It was too difficult to keep the beam focused and well let's just say that the we ran into a shortage of volunteers that were willing to fire the darn thing.

Some people have no sense of humor.
