Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain Golden Shiners A Good Forage Source?

i had to bring this topic back up. i have been planning to stock something else for my largemouth to eat in my pond which is around 2.7 acres. this is a new pond last year, that does have a few largemouth around 12-13". when fishing i can catch 3-4 of these largemouth in a couple hours, so i don't think its loaded with these, but enough that i cannot get fatheads established. i would like enough forage for trophy largemouth, and i want something to supplement the bluegill. my main question is for bill cody because his last reply was pretty informative. if i stock 20 lbs of golden shiners in 2.7 acres, by your numbers that would be around 2000 shiners. given the fact of having "some" adult largemouth, do you feel i would be wasting my money? if so, what other option would i have to get the best growth from my largemouth and the biggest largemouth in indiana. seems to me any other forage would just be a positive enhancement. i don't want to discourage anyone else's opion, so if you have and opinion please let me hear it. if i go with shiners i need to do it very soon, and i don't want to waste the spring spawn, or worse, make a bad decision. thanks in advance.

Hi My name is jordan and im 15, I am a proud owner of a quarter acre pond, that is a bass haven. i have recently stocked my pond with golden shiners. they are now at a perfect eating size for my fish. before i had stocked them i had very skinny bass that were very easy to catch, Know i have huge fat bass some that grew 4 to 5 inches in one year, and yet my shiner population stays great because of the amount of vegitation in my pond. as a defect to adding so much food the bass are much harded to catch.
