We have a new addition to our fish tank in our office.   Fuggly is a mutated bluegill/green sunfish mutt of a fish. The pictures dont even do this fish's uglyness justice- he is just plain uggly and quite frankly kind of creepy.

He's kinda like those pop eye goldfish... I guess he feeds OK, since he isn't tiny. Is he partially or totally blind?

What is the difference between Fuggly and a hybrid bluegill? How did you find him, and why only one? Didn't he have lots of brothers and sisters who looked just like him?
I think he is pretty neat. I'd love to have some mature guys like him in my pond.

Yikes. That bluegill hit every branch of the ugly tree. I don't think he's getting too far with the ladies of the tank unless he gets another bluegill to tie a bunch of larvae around his throat.

He is actually from a group of Hybrid Bluegill from a hatchery in Illinois, and there is only one of him, all the others are about 6-8 inches long and normal looking......I would rough estimate that 1 out of 5000 HBG that i see turn out like this.
I actually have seen a handful of these "ugly" guys over the years from various hatcheries, but decided to keep this one in our fish tank for a few days just to observe his behaviour for a bit. He doesnt swim around much, just hangs out near the bottom.

Almost certainly a hybridized hybrid. And I believe that Brettski was on the correct path.
