Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations How cool would a live webcam of your pond be?

Knocking around the idea of one. Got a couple of old laptops laying around and a storage shed going in soon with a small solar sytem to recharge batteries, run a few lights, etc. Plug in a webcam, connect it to the 'net through a cellular provider, and I found a live cam site that shows feeds to up to 15 users at a time for free. Whenever I need a fix I could just go to the site and look, from my smartphone even . Another forum I am on is going to use this idea to provide a feed to their big yearly get together on their forum for those that can't attend.

I love the idea/concept especially as a way to see who is trespassing.

You can set up your own server software (many free ones out there) on your laptop that will email you when motion is detected and even send a snapshot of what triggered the event. Some can even be set up to call or text you when triggered. You can then log into your server remotely and view live footage OR the recorded footage from the motion detection.

I used to have one like this in my office because we had a shared cleaning crew for our building, and I was always a little concerned about someone looking through my desk. Never happenned, but I liked the security still.

That would be great to have, I can hear me now, HEY YOU DANG HERON GET THE HECK OFF MY DOCK! Shouting through a loud speaker that I have located at the pond. Or hey guy in the deer stand hanging over on my side watching my side, Quit looking over here!

Yell at a heron? Man, I would like to yell at a trespasser and post it on youtube. "Hey, you! Yah, you! Get away from my fish!"

Would be quite easy to set up. Also, if you were willing to spend a little extra on a webcam you could go with one that has tilt, pan and zoom functions.

HEHE My wife thinks I am obsessed with the pond, That would only prove her right! If I had a remote infrared camera down there! How cool would that be?

I thought about that before too. It would be a great tool for keepong a eye on trespassers. If you get one going let us know how it works.

For real though. place the camera infrot of the feeder, and you can watch your fish feed everyday!

They make remote access game cameras. They are expensive, but I know a couple guys who have them. They can watch from their office what is going on in the deer woods. Pretty cool stuff!

Rather than buy the remote access game camera I'm looking at using a wireless security system to monitor my pond and my hunting woods. Last I checked the whole system could be bought for no more than owning about 2 or 3 mid priced game cameras. That was for a 4 channel system with one camera. Extra camera are around $100 or so. I need a system that will reach up to 1/2 mile which I found at the following link. This would be so cool, they have every kind of camera you can think of.

I have a wireless IP camera looking over our pond. Once the novelty wore off, about the only time I access it is when I am on vacation.

So easy to do that I probably shouldn't dare sharing. hehe

I have a Panasonic ip camera at our place it is great. It can pan tilt ,record And the zoom is incredibly. I can set up a temporray user id and password if anyone is interested in seeing how it works? it runs in the $800.00 range.

I would love to have one. Unfortunately, it would have to be solar, and have a range of 5 miles.

If you have line of site between point A and B (perhaps a small tower if needed), you could make it work using cheap off the shelf WIFI equipment and high gain directional antennas.

Nothing but trees the entire 5 miles.

I was thinking about asking my neighbor across the road from my pond if I could transmit to his computer. I would have to catch his computer on, but at least I would have something.

I caught a guy fishing the other day, so something is really needed.
