I let some pond water age 4 days, and here's what I got.  Left to right "pure" pond water ~5% settled metal chips ~25% settled A pinch of table salt ~99% settled (worked very quickly) Having tested many other things, I've found that most substances which readlily dissolve in water will have at least some effect on clearing. Most potent thing I've found so far is Sulphuric acid (H2SO4). Acetic acid (CH3COO4) is also pretty potent. Haven't tried hydrochloric(HCL), which should also work well. It appears that old cars and other scrap metal would work, albeit more slowly, similar to ag lime. Next up: fish hooks, aspirin, and Mountain Dew. Any ideas for something more practical to test?

Specifically using Ferrus Chloride. I attended a talk from Dr. Ken Wagner, Cirtified Lake Manager and past North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) President where he specifically is injecting Ferrus Chloride in lakes with aeration to bond the phosphates with the iron and precipitate them to the bottom redenring these nutrients unavalilable for algae to use as a food source.

Cary I have seen articles on that approach. It does also result in the P being unavailable for plankton growth which may not be so good.

so curious minds want to know how much salt; did you do the math to see how much you would need per acft? What would that bring the NaCl ppt level to?

Actually it was the first PB Regional Meeting you hosted that I heard that from Bob and thought..."That makes sense, I have been trying to say that to my customers and never thought about just asking that!"
