Hey CJ, every plant place I go to I ask them if they have Monkey flower, and they look at me like I have 2 heads, they're probably illegal in NY.

HAHA, they're just an unusual native not your run of the mill lily or daisy... You may have to source them from the internet. If you can find a native flower nursery in your area, try checking with them... Otherwise it may have to be the internet.

Park seed has monkey flower seeds, and they say they bloom in 2 months or less, maybe I'll get some.

Their catalog is online. They are for the most part a wholesale supplier for projects related to the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay; however, they will sell to retail customers and will ship. They have reasonable prices and a super friendly and well informed staff.

I have purchased swamp rose, marsh hibiscus, and sweet flag from them. I will be getting a few hundred plugs of pickerel weed and arrow arum soon. I can't recommend them highly enough.

PLP, thanks for the link, looks like they have a nice assortment, but I didn't see Monkey flower on their list.

Check out http://wetlandsupply.com/ I have ordered from them in past. They have monkey flower... You can pretty much bet, if they don't have it, no one will!

Here's some of the Monkey flowers I planted from seeds 6 weeks ago, they probably would have grown faster if we didn't have so many cloudy days.
CJ says they grow well in wet soil so I'll be planting some on the islands and see how they do.

They look great! You've got a green thumb... Not sure how the person who named them thought the flower looked like a monkey face, but that is how they got their name!

Monkey flower really seems to like very wet places.

That is why I recommended it! Plus it looks so darn cool and is native... Can't be beat! I am glad they are doing well for you. They really are a neat flower aren't they?

CJ, I put 6 plants in the yard here at home, and something ate 2 of them, I think chipmunks.

The palatability of monkey flower is one thing I don't know. I know deer will eat them, but there isn't much they won't eat...
