I plan on digging a pond in Farnham shaly silt loam ground between two hills. There is a class C creek running through it. I am concerned about establishing a pond that will not attract vegetation. It will be about an acre and a half and will not require a dam. Is anyone here familiar with digging a pond in this type of soil?

I am not that familar with Farnham soils but after building dozens of ponds and watching weeds grow over the years I can tell you this:
Keep the slope inside the pond steep, weeds like shallow water the best. Strip all the topsoil from the inside of the pond, they weeds will still grow, but they usually grow slower in non organic soils.

Good advice, but since this is stream fed, won't the water bring in organic soil for vegetation? Is there a way to filter/minimize the dirt from an incoming stream?
