I've been reading through the Bass Resource site to hone my skills for my new found addiction, bass fishing.

Bass Resource

I've been reading about crankbaits recently because my skills are limited to spinnerbaits and plastics at this point. I came across this following statement and I can't figure out what exactly this is referring to.

Can someone please explain the following technique:

"The Bow and Arrow Release - One of the biggest tips that helped improve my deflection success has actually been the retrieval of snagged lures. After a friend of mine drew Rick Clunn, he showed me a modification of a retrieval technique I already knew. This let me get out more snags which equated to more strikes as the bait freed itself and more time fishing. More of a popping rhythm to the bow and arrow technique."

Thanks in advance guys...

No idea what the mod is.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

It would be easier to show but I'll do my best to explain. It only works if you're snagged only by the hooksin a log or something. If your line is wrapped around something, the B and A will probably just mke it worse. All you do is put tension on the line (a slight bow in your rod), then pull the line ith your off hand. At this point, it looks like you have a bow and arrow pulled back and ready to fire. Release the tension on the line (let go of the line and point your rod at the snag). The point is to try and get the lure to pop back out the opposite way from when it got snagged. Saves a lot of time instead of going around behind the lure and tugging. It works best with a floating lure and line with a little bit of stretch to it, IMO. This allows the lure to float up and away from the snag if it gets freed and the stretch in the line gives a better snap. Hope that helps.

No problem, it can save a ton of time (and money) when it works.

I saw a pro use this technique several years ago and use it quite a bit. I works pretty well. I leave the line just barely slack, pull the line out in front of the reel to load the rod then release like a bow string. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries.

The bow and arrow technique is great for getting lures back from rocks. Like lmoore said, it only works for wood if barely hooked.
