 I was wondering if this was a black or white crappie?

I'd bet money it is a black crappie, just based on the markings. How many dorsal spines does it have? If it has seven or more, that most often is a good indicator of a black crappie.

I'll have to check the spine theory out next time I walk down to the pond. I thought they were white crappie but,wasen't really sure.I'll catch one and post a better photo. It dosen't realy matter to us white or black crappie but, it's kinda nice to know whats in your pond, Thanks

No doubt in my mind. It's a black crappie. White crappie have a faint vertical banding pattern to their dark spots. Dr. Willis is correct about counting the spines, but you're extremely likely to find out that's a black crappie.
