Dad and I went fishing on Memorial Day. We went out on Lake Livingston for about 3 hours and caught 150 fish. We caught about 25 Striped bass but none were legal length. They were all about 1 inch short. The picture below was our Limit of 50 white bass.

wow great trip. I have never fished anywhere and caught 50 fish/hr. But I dont get to fish as much as I would like either.
Get out and fish.

spent many moons fishing for whites on Livingston. Lil George, slab spoons, cast master? Hopefully some topwater action.

Hey Tim, I'm just curious to find out the best way to cook white bass. I've tried them fried but the taste and I don't agree.
If you have a good recipe, please post it...

The disagreeable "taste" that you mention in white bass is from the daark meat along the center line of filet.
Remove it and it will be the best fish ever - IMO.

Dad was using a Maltese Minnow and I was using a silver slab spoon. We were just jigging on the edge of a drop off were it went from 18 foot of water to 35 foot. That is the first time in my life that we tore them up that bad that quick and I too have fished for them for many moons as well (close to 30 years). In the past we have found them schooling on the top of the water but they were always small fish. They were bitting so good that all we were doing was hitting the reel line release and you would have fish on before the bait hit the bottom. As far as cooking them I think it has the a lot to do with cleaning them. We cut all the dark red meat off the fillets and soak them in butter milk before we fry them.

The removal of the dark meat is key for many species, bluefish is the biggest one I can think off. That surface action for white bass is a blast! When larger stripers are mixed in all the more fun... I think it may just be my favorite kind of fishing. Anything with hungry predators chasing baitfish on the surface is top notch fun to me!
