You will still have your same amount of adult coontail and american pondweed, its just they will be living in blue water as opposed to clear water.
But if JHFV applies it early in the year when the macrophytes (weeds) are not developed yet, it will act the same as an algae bloom will it not blocking out sunlight? Or perhaps Coontail and American pond weed are are different?
I've used Aquashade in a few of my ponds and it completely eliminated Chara growth deeper than 2 feet. I'm liking the dye more and more in ponds where my fish are pellet fed and I'm not concerned about the lack of phytoplankton and zooplankton levels. It's a pain in the derriere to get grass carp where I am and expensive.(The transportation cost more then the darn carp as we are not allowed to pick them up in Indiana. When I finally had it set up to get some, the supplier wanted to stock them in the hottest part of the summer. I know better than that!

No worries about dying the dog or anything else in the water once the dye is dispersed. At least that is my experience.
