I found what looks like FA floating in small clumps but instead of green/bluegreen this stuff is black. When I picked it up it is slime like and fiborus like every other FA but the color is like used motor oil. Does this mean its dead? Will it respond to copper? thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum ho5tile! Contact Greg Grimes in Ball Park Ga. Here is a link to his company http://www.lakework.com . He can fix you up with some algae control! Personally, I'm not a big fan of heavy metals in the fish I eat out of my pond. He may offer some better suggestions.

Lyngbya probabobly is the culprit. It is not dead but is tough to kill. Requires both copper and reward in our experience. We have both for sale or the guys can come spray it for ya. Good luck it is not easy to kill but is doable.
Rainman I do not feel you will have a built up of heavy metals in fish from spraying copper. Not in elemental form and the math would mean years of treatements before levels that would bioaccumlulate in the fish tissue. Thanks for referral. It is Ball Ground, but I like the sound of Ball Park more.

Welcome to Pond Boss ho5tile, we're glad you found us. Give Greg a call, he's a great guy and a supporter of Pond Boss. Check out his website.  Look at the relative weight on that guy, it's got to be what over 120? (the bass not Greg, I'd estimate Greg's RW at about 98%). The bass weighed 11 pounds - one word. DAMN!
