As you have been advised, get your forage establised first (early spring 2007) and then add SMB next fall 2007 at the earliest. See this thread for sources of SMB in OH - order and reserve SMB early they sell out fast in the fall.
Get some stones-rocks like those in ewest's upper photo in soon and at a couple to several spots maybe 4-5 ft in dia about 2.5ft-4ft deep. SMB spawn most often in our local ponds utilizing stones golf-ball to baseball sized.
Utilize the searches to read & read some more about SMB, LMB and HSB. I think you can combine SMB with a few HSB (80%SMB-upto 20%HSB)and they will co-exist okay. However either chose SMB or LMB, but not both, for reasons you will read about in earlier posts.
As Dr. Willis says you will likely have stunting problems with crappie in a pond without LMB. Consider yellow perch instead of crappie. SMB can easier control their numbers. Helped a pondowner today harvest some YP from his 0.3 ac pond. We kept 30 YP 9.5"-14.5" long - 13of30 (43%)were greater then 13" long, 19of30(63%) were greater than 12" long and there were only 7 small throw backs - all from an amazing perch pond.
