Buckeye - I agree with the comments from Theo about rock. Even if your smallies don't "need" rock to spawn and recruit successfully, they like the rock habitat and it should be a good concentrating spot for your angling efforts. As others have hinted, I am worried about a smallmouth bass-black crappie pond. I strongly suspect that you will see overpopulated crappies in short order. Smallmouths are not nearly as effective predators as are largemouths.
