can smallmouth bass survive in a east texas pond? if so what kind of forage should i stock. where's the closest hatchery that sells smallmouth?

I think I recall that Lusk has some by Whitesboro. Of course, he is pretty good at raising fish.

While we are on this subject......Does anyone here have ANY experience with Kentucky/Spotted bass in small farm ponds?

I'd consider running a water column profile for one summer before investing in a significant smallmouth stocking. Find out what temperatures and clarities exist throughout the summer and fall. This may give you some valuable information.
We should start a spotted bass thread because I'm interested if any pondmeisters have tried this.

I haven't heard of anyone in East Texas with them. They are a great fish, but our climate/environment does not seem to fit their needs. Not only ponds, but none of the lakes or streams have them either. If you try them, let us know what happens.

Pond eviroments are completely different from a large lake... but approx 2 months ago we caught a 5-3 and a 4-7 at Lake Texoma. Just 2 of I'm not sure how many we caught. All were caught along big rock banks casting a variety of baits.
Amazing fish compared to the 1/2 lb to 2 lbers I'm accustomed to catching on the Buffalo River.
