Here's one of those "free advice is worth what you pay for it" comments:
In my experience, just about anything fish or animal, that you might want to raise and own will do far better if you can get local stock. I realize you are after genetics, but I would suggest you would be way ahead by finding the best genetics possible in your local area.
Local options just work a lot better for me in livestock and fish, but then East Texas is a pretty tough environment also. Good luck!
