Texas fish, where in Texas are you located?
We had literally thousands of bullheads in our LMB pond two years ago. Last month we had an electrofishing survey done and captured ZERO bullheads in that pond.
We fished them out, we trapped them, and we blasted them with shotguns.
Our bass also put heavy pressure on the vulnerable bullhead yoy that congregate in large black masses near the surface.
We still get trash fish--alligator gar and carp--when the creek overflows and fills the pond.
Having trash fish is something we'll always have to deal with if we want our pond to get any water, and you might have the same problem.
Another thing you could do:
Even though it can be expensive, I'd do an electrofishing survey every year or two years. You can remove any unwanted fish at that time.
