If you have a wooded edge to your pond, there is a good chance you can attract wood ducks to it. You can mount the wood duck box to either a tree or post but posts tend to prevent predation and are convenient in that you can put them exactly where you want... Wood ducks are very picky about where they nest though, but if you don't put a box up, you'll never know if they'll pick your pond!
