I found a note that Gammarus lacustris is considered a cold water species. No wonder they are often associated with watercress. Their upper tolerance for temperature is around 77F. No wonder I could not get them to live in my perch pond. Shallow waters there get up to 86-88F. I will now start looking into stocking Gammarus fasciatus it is just a little smaller as an adult but tolerates higher temperatures.
