Scuds may have only 15 to 50 eggs per brood but the broods can number up to 15 per year. The 15 to 50 eggs is a range that encompasses several species. I have not located specific info yet on G.lacustris.

I think scuds will be successful in a pond that has some shallow water areas that are weed choked and the panfish population is not overly abundant. I envision a pond like this to be a minnow-invebrate pond with maybe a few male bgill.

I found a note that Gammarus lacustris is considered a cold water species. No wonder they are often associated with watercress. Their upper tolerance for temperature is around 77F. No wonder I could not get them to live in my perch pond. Shallow waters there get up to 86-88F. I will now start looking into stocking Gammarus fasciatus it is just a little smaller as an adult but tolerates higher temperatures.

Bill that is an excellent example of why we all need to research a little before we try to add things to our ponds or make major changes to them. I just wish I knew or remembered that lesson (get the facts first) before some of my ill advised pond trials. \:o

Theo :

They turned into long haired profs. that convinced me it was ok to use some CU sulfate to kill some FA in the netted off area with my new CNBG after I just added some lime. Upps can't breath. \:o \:o I read the first 2 pages about it before hand - to bad on pg.4 it said warning this may effect the ability of fish to uptake O2 from the water.
