What kind of bluegill is that Darth Vader looking fish that Bob is holding on the inside cover of the magazine. That fish definitely has the force with him

Bob posted that pic here on the forum somewhere once and talked of it's origin. IIRC, it's from Richmond Mill Lake, but it could have been one of the other BOW Bob helps manage.

Giant male coppernose bluegill from Richmond Mill Lake in Laurel Hill, NC. Blackwater, pH about 5.3-4.9, spawning male, hence the darkness.

Bob I keep saltwater reef tanks that I keep around 8.3ph. Is (5.3-4.9)that a desired ph for farm ponds? It is working well in that pound. Our ground water here is on the alkaline side and my pond being about 14 feet deep and dug in a bottom area is filled about one third with ground water.

Yep, I missed it.
A pH of 6-8 is desireable for ponds. Lower or higher presents its own problems. Richmond Mill Lake has a thriving fish population, but when we introduce fish, we've had to work at it. For a pond, alkalinity is important, if you wish to fertilize and work to create a "natural" food chain. Richmond Mill is mostly dependent on fish food, because of the water quality and the fact that it flows 6-9,000 gallons per minute over the spillway.
