Has anyone ever raised lmb fingerlings say 3-4" size to 6-8" and then release them? If so, how hard and whats involved?

Jeff, how hard and whats involved depends how many and what you want to keep them in.

Indoors or outdoors?
Easy outdoors IF you have a pond full of shiners or fatheads.
Indoors, takes a bit to feed train them, and MUST grade them often.

Didn't a recent issue of Pondboss have an article showing feed trained bass being grown out in outdoor tanks made out of grain bin panels with liners?

I was considering raising them in a 300 gallon water trough..around 25 or so...and feed train them...if possible..wanted to try to get them past predation size for larger bass..

For a water trough, you will need to set up a recirculating system with plants or an aquarium filtration system.

Or set it up as a Po' Boy RAS and pump & dump a good fraction of the water each day to flush wastes.
