We tried to position ours in likely spots for various reasons.

One we put in about 6' of water just before a drop-off. This spot is about 50' from a feeder and the prevailing south winds take the pellets over the PPFA.

Another we placed right on the shallower edge of a very large (nearly verticle) dropoff--a great spot for LMB and HSB to ambush any forage congregating around the PPFA.

Another we placed in an inlet in about 4-5' of water. Fish use a U-shaped "channel" that goes from one inlet, around the point, and back to another inlet. The PPFA is right on their "highway."

Location is definitely the biggest factor in how effective structure can be. We were not thrilled with the results of the PPFAs at first, but they have produced more fish lately.

I think there could be another explanation for our experience. Even though I think our PPFAs are in promising spots, I think one problem is that they're still isolated. If we had 2 or 3 PPFAs in each spot, I think each area would hold more fish for a longer period of time. That's something we'll consider when adding structure in the future.
