Cecil, I will back you up. Handling sunfish below 50 degrees is risky business. It can be done, but if a human hand touches the fish, or they are bruised in any way, they die. It may take days, even weeks, but once a fungus attacks, it's over. The professional fish handlers understand it and take extra care when handling and transporting fish. But, even then, you can't be 100% positive you won't lose a few fish.
