One thing that a lot of catch and release anglers don't know and I would hope Bob Lusk would back me up on this is, members of the sunfish family (which of course includes largemouth bass) can get the fungus from being handled in cold water below 50 F.
I know several fish farms that won't seine or handle bass below that temperature for that reason. One Michigan supplier that does seine his bass out of ponds just after ice out holds them in indoor tanks, warms up the water, and gets them on feed ASAP. When I used to get them from him I would also get them feeding ASAP to prevent fungus by hydrating the feed.
