I only use braid for dense weeds, brush or catfish. I never use less than 50lb test. I'm not too particular on brand as long as it's round because the old flat fireline was a pain on a baitcaster.

Most of my poles are spooled either with mono or pure flourocarbon. Both cast better than braid. Mono where I need some shock absorbtion such as crankbaits and flourocarbon where I need sensitivity like a finesse bait or if I'm in ultraclear water like in Canada. For general fishing on the zebcos it's mono all the way.
