how old do bluegill have to be before they will spawn? and what size are they when they hatch? how big will they get in a few weeks?

my reason for asking is: my new pond was stocked 2 weeks ago and due to the hurricane it filled and i had a lot of fish to go out the standpipe. i bought a trap today and put it in the stream about 40 yards below the pond and caught about 15 bg within an hour. they ranged in size from 3/4"- 2"....just curious if they have spawned since they were stocked.

What size were the BG when stocked ?

I fish supplier states some bluegill will spawn at 3-4"..I have read that in other sources as well..however the larger fish are more prolific spawners..I put 600 3-4" cnb in my pond and within 2 months I had fry....supplemental feeding did make a difference..

Tropical storm Fay sent a lot of water and fish over my emergency spillway. I found several dead fish the next day including 3"-4" RES and WM. (Yes, I now have WM courtesy of the pond upstream ) I checked the fish for roe and found it in about half of them.

1 to 2 inch BG will not spawn 2 weeks after stocking. A 4 inch BG can spawn. It takes a BG about 20 days from the onset of the proper photoperiod and water temp to be ready to spawn assuming they are in good enough condition to do so and the other conditions are right.

A 2 inch BG can grow quickly to 4 inches. I just had some double in size (some from 2 to 4 inches and some from 3 to 6 inches appx. ) in 40 days.

I caught what i thought was bluegill fry once and they were only about 1/4" maybe smaller as i recall.
