DIED,
Keep the aeration where it is. It is correct to say now is NOT the time to change that varible and have a potential of introducting Hydrogen Sulfide that may be in a pocket somewhere.
Now this is where a surface aeration unit will be the best "Emergency" aeration system. Let me know if I can help in any way with suggestions or types. Good Luck.

thanks for chiming in cary.
i'm thinking the high pressure nozzle i have pointed at an angle to the water surface would serve that purpose (i.e. surface aeration?) what do you think?
even though it would be hard well water, at 5 gpm (300 gal/hr) there should be enough pond volume (~500,000 gallons) to buffer any significant chemical or temperature changes and it would really chop up the surface.
we have a cold front coming in this afternoon, rain predicted tonight through mid-day tomorrow, then sun again tomorrow afternoon......so the critical time to watch will be tomorrow morning, yes?
i'm gonna go rig something now, and check back in here later.

to date we are getting the tail spit of this thing 0.1-inches so far, still waiting for those downpours later.
mr. mcbutterpants, if yer listening, if i lost my pond, i'd go live in a trailer down by the river.

we got 0.5-inches overnight w/ scattered showers forecast til early afternoon, and that'l be that. a good shot in the arm, just what the doctor ordered.
probably about 10k gallons added to pond.
the pond water looks really refreshed this morning, the aeration is cycling it all around, i'm a much happier camper today.

Don't know whether it's harder to watch fish die or get a phone call telling you that all your fish are dead....
Took me three weeks to get over a lump in my stomach before I could go to the pond for a look.
The buzzards and racoons had cleaned the mess by that time.

we totaled 0.6-inches, which appears to have been enough to refresh not only the pond, but all the oaks and pines as well.
no rain in the extended (10-day) forecast. guess i'll just have to wait on the next one.

Glad to hear it DIED. With the cooler weather coming, maybe that will tide you over until the storms start coming.
