The generator will feed (thru the conduit) to the main shed.

No utility to the property yet. As of now, the main panel will be the shed panel.
I'm wiring for the genset only, but expect to someday convert to either utility (or solar...?)..tbd

Brettski,
Go ahead and put in a transfer switch now, whether manual or automatic. It will make wiring in the utility power easier later. Plus it is required once you get utility.

I can't tell you anything about the gauge of wire, but I can tell you that pushing wire through a 1 1/2" conduit is MUCH easier than 1 1/4". I had the same idea. I purchased about 500' of 1 1/4" but ended up not using it because it was too difficult to push those 3 wires through there. The 1 1/2" PVC conduit is just a little more money and it maked the job much easier.

1. Don't push wire, suck a string through with a ball of tape (or the ubiquitous Walmart plastic bag) on the end using a shop vac, pull a heavier line through with the string, and PULL the wire. You're not creating 1000's of kinks that add friction.

Makes me nervous when Theo says cable lube The lube is OK. It is the name that electricians use when referring to it. That should make you nervous.  Clear Glide Lubricant
