I pay close to $100 each month to pump water into my pond. I have looked into aeration but then you have more costs for solar or more electric bill. I have researched building a wind turbine online. Has anyone made their own wind turbine or purchased a reasonably priced one to pump and aerate their ponds? I have read about using a regular windmill to aerate but the wind turbine would be used to generate electricity to do it.

Bump, this will be interesting to find out. I don't recall anyone here mentioning a wind turbine.

Wind turbines are pretty expensive from what I've seen. The cheapest Bergey is a 1kW model for around $6,000 before install. Prices go up from there for the better systems. My guess would be that the "break even" point would be several years out depending on wind and maintenance.
Mariah Power has come out with a new system according to NPR. It's cyndrical in shape instead of blades at the top of a tower. It's cost will be @ $5,000 but is still in the testing stage and dosen't come with the batteries that the Bergey does.
If you have the upfront capital, then a turbine might be an option.

I am not sure how many kwh's a well pump and an aerator pump need but there are alot smaller turbines for sale that are way cheaper than $6,000. There are a ton of plans on the net to build your own for under $200. Of course that depends on how much you find a small DC motor for. I am just curious if anyone has built one of these and are using it to power their pond system.

There are a lot of folks out there building their own using car alternators, treadmill motors and so forth as the generator and old tv antenna towers for mounting it on.
You should do plenty of research and take safety VERY seriously. Improperly installed windmills can kill.
