One day a fisherman was lying on a beautiful beach, with his fishing pole propped up in the sand and his solitary line cast out into the sparkling blue surf. He was enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun and the prospect of catching a fish.

About that time, a businessman came walking down the beach, trying to relieve some of the stress of his workday. He noticed the fisherman sitting on the beach and decided to find out why this fisherman was fishing instead of working harder to make a living for himself and his family.

"You aren't going to catch many fish that way," said the businessman to the fisherman, "you should be working rather than lying on the beach!"

The fisherman looked up at the businessman, smiled and replied, "And what will my reward be?"

"Well, you can get bigger nets and catch more fish!" was the businessman's answer.

"And then what will my reward be?" asked the fisherman, still smiling.

The businessman replied, "You will make money and you'll be able to buy a boat, which will then result in larger catches of fish!" "And then what will my reward be?" asked the fisherman again.

The businessman was beginning to get a little irritated with the fisherman's questions. "You can buy a bigger boat, and hire some people to work for you!" he said.

"And then what will my reward be?" repeated the fisherman.

The businessman was getting angry. "Don't you understand? You can build up a fleet of fishing boats, sail all over the world, and let all your employees catch fish for you!"

Once again the fisherman asked, "And then what will my reward be?"

The businessman was red with rage and shouted at the fisherman, "Don't you understand that you can become so rich that you will never have to work for your living again! You can spend all the rest of your days sitting on this beach, looking at the sunset. You won't have a care in the world!"

The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "And what do you think I'm doing right now?"

Fishing on the beach is definitely one of my most favorite things to do! If I dont catch anything, i am just like all the other folks sitting there catching some rays. When i do catch fish, it is like icing on the cake! plus you never know what you are going to catch on any given cast.

Surf fishing is one of my favorite things to do. Two summers ago, my dad hooked a large tarpon while we were fishing for trout/redfish. It ran him at least a half mile down the beach before it broke the line (12# test with 30lb. mono leader). He probably battled that thing for 40 minutes.

I�ve got to get you and your Dad hooked on fly fishing � if you think it�s fun catching those monsters on conventional gear � just get one on a fly rod rated for that class fish.
Believe me, you can whip a fish quicker on a fly rod quicker that on a �boat� rod...

We fish anywhere from Baffin Bay (south) up to Aransas Bay (north). I personally spend most of my time in Corpus Christi Bay and fish around Aransas Pass, Portland, and Rockport. We wade fish almost exclusively...usually with live bait, sometimes with lures.

Flyfishing and bowhunting are two of the things I want to try most. Unfortunately, they both can be expensive habits.

My favorite areas for sure - explored every inch of those bays and estuaries for O&G many years ago.
Based in Rockport which was only a small fishing village at the time.

Good night! That's a BIG fish, even with Condello arms!

Notice that my elbows are firmly planted in my belly. The fish was way too big to hold out. It weighed approximately thirty pounds, which is a pretty decent CC around these parts.

Please. That's a big CC anywhere! I'm at my mom's place right now trying to catch what I *thought* were big CCs that are munching on all the large BG and RES and not helping my management for healthier bass. They ain't nothing compared to that fish. We have a few that will go 15, with a couple more possibly larger, but not thirty.

How big was the pond/lake you were fishing?

Eight acres. It is a public lake that is heavily fished. It is all catch and release, and there's a feeder, but for the most part people catch the smaller fish. I used a technique that I learned on "Pond Boss" to catch the big one. It was Cecil's panty hose pellet fly method. It took me over an hour to land on ten pound test in my float tube. My arms are still tired three days later.

You get much of a ride?

I was in a statewide fishing contest. One of the other contestants timed the fight at 65 minutes. He said that I was towed around the lake six times by his estimation.

That's hilarious! Did you win anything for catching that beauty?

Edit: Either that lake is void of structure, or you are one lucky (and skilled, of course) dude catching it on 10 lb. test.

Fortunately it's all around the edges. I worked my 'you know what' off to keep it in the middle of the lake. I also got really lucky.

Oh..sorry...I haven't won anything, because this was week 3 of a four week contest. There's a bluegill week, a catfish week, a bass week and a miscellaneous week. It looks like I'll finish fairly high.

Only Bruce Condello could catch a 30 lb. CC on 10 lb. test in a lake full of structure after being towed for 6 laps. That's the stuff legends are made of.

for some reason lucky and skilled usually go hand in hand.

I do almost all of my surf fishing from the beaches of Gulf Shores Alabama! But if I ever happen to find myself on the coast anywhere, I always toss a shrimp or chunk of fish out regardless of however many people are swimming nearby. (fun to see people start congregating when I pull in a shark or sting ray!)

I would take a cooler full of those flounders anyday!!! I dont care much for the specks, there meat seems mushy.

WOW!!! 30 lbs is a big CHANNEL CAT!!!

Bruce is an incredible fishing machine. The true story is he used one of his cull 1# female CSBG for bait.

You could have made 9 or 10 if you hadn't needed those pit stops.

Dang Bruce that is a huge monster! So how does the tournament work, is there a prize for each part of the contest (largest BG, largest Catfish) and then overall winner?

Jeez you guys catch some big fish.

Each week has a different featured fish. First week was miscellaneous, second week was sunfish, third week catfish, fourth week bass, including HSB LMB and SMB.

A target length is pre-determined, such as 26 inch for CC. You must reach the target length to advance to the next week. Your score for each week is the length of your fish divided by the target length. My fish was 36 1/8, which yielded a score of 1.39 or 36.125/26. Winner is greatest total score for four weeks. Cabelas donated 1,000 dollars in merchandise for top three places adult, and first place for youth.
