I'm in the process of placing cover in my pond and we ran into a problem today. I was going to use T-posts to anchor things in the pond like logs, brushpiles, etc. but there is nothing but hard rock a few inches under the clay. How would you anchor these things down? The best I can come up with is 5 gallon buckets filles with quickrete. Any suggestions?

4 inch pvc pipe filled with cement cut into 3 foot lengths cut a whole bunch strap them close together take one bag of portland or mortar and sand and it will make many anchors and you wont snag them with fish hooks use heavy zip ties Same goes with weighing down aerator lines use 1 inch pvc cut in sections

i happen to be a fan of the pvc xmas tree
put about 50 in my pond

5 gallon bucket with 4-5 feet of 3-4 inch pvc cement pipe in bucket drill 3/4 -1 inch holes thru the trunk and slide pvc tubing thru the holes at different angles

toss into the bottom of the pond

cable and cinder blocks make good tie downs for tires and pallets

This is what I've got so far. We worked hard to get this little bit done. Man, I've got a lot of work ahead of me. I was able to get some concrete rubble from a local concrete company for free. This is the stuff that is washed out of the trucks after making a delivery. It's relatively fine like quickrete. I've been told this stuff will set up just like concrete once it gets wet again. We'll see, but I had to use this stuff to anchor the buckets in place.

I know it isn't much but it's a start.

I have used cinder blocks with wire or nylon rope to achor trees in as well...old tires with holes drilled into them with the rims work well too...be careful trying to anchor into a questionable bottom..you could end up with a leaking/seeping pond..

Always remember that one day when you have sold your property or are not around to supervise a child may decide to dive off the back of a boat or dock thinking that the bottom is as smooth as a swimming pool.
Just recently a customer read somewhere to make structure out of pvc 1 1/2. Several were made and he sunk them away from dock and beach area in the early spring.

Three months later his grandson dives off dock and severly injures himself on pvc.

We were called in to figure out how they got by the dock and we found that snappers coming to nest out must have moved them toward shore the pond beig a fryin pan design. The ends of the pipe were chewed

There should always be min. 10 foot of water over natural installed structure,l same goes for a dock or float raft.

They were anchored with a pallet and nylon rope that was severed never throw a pallet in a pond

I have been thinking alot about my kids jumping in and I'm trying to keep cover away from swim and jump areas. I'm curious though. Why not use pallets if properly anchored?

Pallets rot and leave nails behind a pallet has the spacing for a child to get his foot caught and not get out

Point in fact Juan Mendez died in July 2006 from drownig his foot was caught in the slats and could not reach the surface at Beetle lake. Granted the yong man was from the city no one told him that a man read somewhere that if you bundle pallets in the shape of a tee pee you will get more fish attracted to that spot.

We have had customers throw pallets in they got from warehouses that had absorbed chemicals and produced fish kills.

Use 12 inch concrete blocks or lay bags of sakrete on structure and fasten with zip ties when pond fills concrete cures.

rocks work well and never use sheetrock to anchor
