I have never used Cutrine or any similar product for algae. The instructions state to spray the diluted material on the pond surface, which will be very difficult to do in my situation. Will the product still be effective if I mix Cutrine with pondwater in a 5 gallon bucket and pour the diluted mix in multiple areas of the pond? If this is acceptable, should I pour the mix in the deeper water or near to the shore? Thanks for your help and input.

How about mixing it in a garbage can and pitching it out with a pitcher? I was able to do that when I added alum to a pond.

Or do you have a diffuser set up in the pond? Would it be possible to slowly pour into the bubble of your diffuser to get it mixed into the pond?

Why will spraying it be difficult?

I made the mistake of trying to use pond water in my pump sprayer to dilute the cutrine. Debris in the water clogged the sprayer tip several times.

No, I do not have a diffuser or any aeration set up. The garbage can idea may speed things up a bit over a 5 gallon pail, assuming application by spraying could be by-passed.

Ryan, the corner of the pond with the algae problem (about 1/3rd of an acre of the 2 acre pond) has steep banks with lots of blackberries and oak. The only way I can effectively spray would be to load my spray rig into my rowboat, which would be a pain and an invitation to capsize the boat.

Anybody else with experience using Cutrine by mixing and dumping as opposed to spraying? Thanks.

I used a cheap hand pump sprayer.Is ther a way to extend the spray nozzle? they seam to spray pretty far. I don't you would any pressure problems if you can find awy to extend the nozzle.

We used the 3 gal hand sprayer method. My hubby ran the small pond boat with trolling motor and I was on the other end just spraying. We did half the pond one day; and the other half the next day (think it was something about he was afraid we'd deplete the oxygen). A long nozzle and stream may keep it away from blackberries and such I would think.

You can use cutrine granules and throw them out from the bank or boat too.

We took a 15 gallon 12 volt electric sprayer and rigged up a 5 foot boom that hung off one side of the boat with 4 sprayers nozzles on it. We also took the sprayer off a gallon sprayer and tee it into the line so when we get into a tight space we would turn off the boom and have more pressure to get back into the shallow areas with the sprayer nozzle. It took a gallon of Cultrine Plus and a little from another gallon for the right mixture. Also DON'T use the pond water it will clog up the sprayer.

I mix the Cutrine liquid with an equal amount of water and use a 1 gallon pump sprayer. I apply it by spraying a stream a using a circular motion to disperse. The solid stream keeps it from blowing away like a fine mist would. It usually end up making two trips around my half acre pond to disperse 2 mixed gallons to get an uniform application. It's not messy and could easily be done from a boat as small as a kayak.

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. I just returned last night from 3 days of working around the property and the ponds. I ended up spraying a portion of the area that needed to be treated from shore with my 25 gallon spray rig. I was able to shoot about a 70' stream of material. The areas that could not be sprayed were treated by mixing a quart of Cutrine with 4 gallons of pondwater in a 5 gallon pail and spreading the mix into the pond from the rowboat. I mixed 5 batches and I stirred the water up pretty well with the oars in an attempt to disperse the product. I will be back up to check on the results in 2 weeks or so. Thanks again.
