Bob...
How much do you save by buying the discs and constructing your own bases? I am just curious what kind of a savings versus time requirement I would be looking at?

Bob,
How do you insure that the aerator lands on the bottom right side up? Not good if it sits upside down.....................

The heavy weight of the PVC on the bottom along with that diffuser acting like a parachute virtually guarantees it will land right side up. If he had used 1/2 inch pvc instead of the larger diameter, it would be far more likely to tip over. If it is warm enough, it is better to swim down and place by hand just to ensure that they don't flip over.

I paid $16 for each disc and the pvc was around $30 for both the 4 disc and 2 disc system together. 2 years ago I paid $128 for a 2 disc diffuser from a dealer online. It worked great for what I was looking for, but I'm a Do-It-Yourself kinda guy. As far as the labor goes to build it, maybe 2 hours. It's hard to gauge labor because I had fun doing it. For me it was worth it.

BarO,
I use 1/4 nylon cord tied to the 4 corners and let it down into the water slowly. At the end of the nylon cord just under the surface of the water I tie a foam bobber to the end of the nylon cord. The bobber is made of this foam packing material that was being disposed of from my work. This stuff is very rugged and doesn't get water logged. I like the idea of the bobber being under water so that all I see on the surface is the boil from the diffusers. I think with any of the diffuser systems there is the fear of it not landing on the bottom right side up. It is just a matter of paying attention and using the nylon cords effectivly.

MAN!!! EDI (diffuser express) almost doubled the price!!!! I paid $9 each for 9 units 8 months ago!
