Here is a pic of our deck. It is constructed from railroad ties. It has 2x6 treated floor joist 16" OC and 8 ft span between the horzontial ties. I also use the treated lumber as diagional supports and to bolt the horzontal ties to the vertical ties. I should have used galv metal angel as bracing instead but took the easy way out.
