I've been reading, enjoying and learning from this board for quite a while, and I'd like to thank the contributors for sharing their knowledge and experiences.
I just built a fairly small pond about .6 acre in size last fall. In Feb we stocked with 400 HBG, 50 BC, and 10# FHM. In addition we have access to a farm pond which we've caught and added about 75 adult native BG 5-8" to provide forage for future LMB stocking. As of this time things are going great. We feed pellet food once, sometimes twice a day and the HBG are growing rapidly, some have tripled their size. The native BG we put in have been spawning and I've noticed several schools of baby BG and a few schools of FHM. Was origionally planning on waiting till fall to add LMB but since the BG are already spawing and the HBG are large enough to avoid predation, I think it might be a good idea to stock now. I'm thinking 25-50 LMB would be a good number to stock. Also, since since I expected to see more FHM spawning, I may also want to stock another 5#.
What do you guys think about this plan? Too many? Too few?

What size LMB do you intend on stocking ? If you are going to use 2-3in LMB then 30 now would be ok. I would also add the additional FH. If you can catch some more adult BG and add them. Fifty more would be good over the summer.

I was planning on catching LMB from the other farm pond. Went out there this morning and had a blast. Picked up 5 LMB 7-8" and 3 more nice BG 6-7" and put them in my pond. I caught 3 nice LMB in the 3-4 lb class, was really tempted to bring them home for my pond, but I knew they were just too large for such a new pond like mine. Planning on adding a few more 5-8" LMB, depending on what size hits my Rooster Tail. Since 30 2-3" would work, I think 10-20 larger LMB would be enough.
Have to enjoy fishing the other farm pond as much as I can because it is going to be drained at some point soon and all the fish will be lost. It is encouraging to fish that pond, which isn't that much larger than mine, to see the large bass that have grown with virtually no attention or management for many years.

What will the 6-10 in LMB eat ? BG yoy and FH yoy are to small , the large BG and HBG are to big for them to eat. Adult FH are small and not enough of them for 20 LMB. You could seine some 2-3 in BG from the other pond (a couple hundred would help). Those size LMB would be better stocked this fall and 20 is plenty.

To much food is a good thing from what i have read on this site. And you will love catching your LMB with all that food for them to eat. Good luck
