millwoodva Fingerling M Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 3 VA	5 yr old 800 gal pond - with 2'x50' stream (stream feed from pond to filter falls, elevation 12') I'm looking for the cheapest chemical to rid the stream of string algae. No Fish - No Plants I had 8 koi (12-15") up until this past fall...raccoon got them. I've been using Pool Shock chlorine which works OK... Looking for other options.. You will have to shut your stream off temporarily while you apply the product and allow it to work. A 2lb jar would run you about $25, but will last you quite a while, particularly if you are using it as a spot treatment. No fish and No plants Probably not the right forum for a "non-living" pond.... I'll look for a link regarding commercial fountains... Guess I'll try Clorox next. $1.75 gallon.. Shorty Lunker S Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 4,598 Likes: 37 Raymond, NE	Millwoodva, other options are cutrine plus, tilapia, and maybe copper sulphate since fish are not involved. If I understand correctly, you have a stream that feeds the pond continually so there is always flow through with new water entering and then exiting the pond? If so, any type of chemical application will only be temporary as it would be flushed through fairly quickly? One could place a bag of copper sulphate crytals at the top of the stream and let the crystals disolve slowley over a day, the larger crystal do disolve more slowly. Normally I would recommend avoiding copper sulphate as it will kill the invertabrates that make up the base of the food chain for the fish too. It is also cosidered a heavy metal. It is also relatively expensive too compared to Clorox. Here in the midwest copper sulphate is used to keep the water tanks for livestock clean and to keep irrigation canels clean of filmentuous algea or other types of vegetation. 50# bags are available at most of the local Coops and the last time I checked copper sulphate ran $2.50 to $3.00 a lb. $\:\($
