Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Types of fish to choose Damage caused by catching BG off nest?

Yesterday I took my family out to our pond and we caught some BG & RES off their nests. It was the first time I knew I could put the kids on some fish in our 4 month old pond. So any damaged we caused yesterday is small compared to the fun the family had. All fish were C & R.

But, when it comes to just myself and my buddies should we wait for them to get off their nests? This is the first spawn for the pond and I want to get some small fish recruitment to feed the LMB. Thanks for any advice.

Even C&R has some disruption of nesting activity. I wonder if it is effectively less disruption in a new pond - when you pull a male BG off the nest in an established pond, there are hoards of small BG waiting to eat the eggs/fry. In a new pond, if all the BG are the same sized, it doesn't seem like this would be the case.

In any event, I would agree it's OK for the kids. I think grownups should wait until after the spawn. Now, you have to ask yourself - are you gonna fish like a kid or like a man?
