Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Golden Shiner fungus(?) problem

New pond.. never had fish. Rectangle. 8 yards by 50 yards. Steep sides with an 6' average.
Began filling with shallow well water 2 months ago. Have used this well on other small ponds with no problems.

Added 200# of pelleted limestone a couple weeks ago. Have also been adding a couple pounds of CS meal meal every week.

Stocked with 20# of large GS one week ago. Looked healthy.
Noted a very small die off after a couple days (15 or so).

Have not seen them actively feeding on CS meal or small catfish food pellets.

Day three: Noticed a couple fish that appeared to be feeding on small catfish food pellets. Kind of pushing the pellet around as they do. On closer inspection.... it was NOT a pellet. There was a round growth on or about their mouths.
Today I saw one with the same size,color,shape growth right behind gills.

I'm guessing some type of fungus.

Because I observed this growth within three days of stocking, would it be correct to think that the fish were infected before stocking? Or could this fungus(if that is what it really is) grow this fast.

Ideas?
Treatment?

Some fungus or baterial infection is going to happen whenever fish are handled and hauled. It's a fact of life no matter how careful the hauler was and how good the fish were from the source. What happens is they lose some of their protective slime layer or get a little beat up and a fungal or bacterial infection is the result. It you're only seeing a few fish like this I wouldn't worry about it.
