OK this post goes out to the Texas boys. I have been paying 9.85 a pound for shiners here in southern Ohio and I have talked to Anderson Minnow Farm in Texas. The guy was extremely nice and I am going to try his way of supplying the food chain. My pond is 4 years old and in very good shape. I buy shiners (22 lbs) every spring and fall(1.5 acres). I can buy 250,000 fry from Anderson's for $250.00. I asked about tank raising them in the basement for a period of time and he didn't like the idea. He wants them in the pond with a nice algea bloom of about 4ft. Has anyone tried this before? Any one up north tried this?

I have to agree with him. 250,000 of anything in a confined tank is chancy. If water quality problems develop, you've had it on the whaole bunch.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
