To answer your question Gambusia,
because walleye will not succesfully spawn in a small lake, they don't spawn that well in medium sized lakes either. Walleyes also don't specialize on BG, they specialize on pelagic bait fish, yellow perch, and situations with low visability, like rivers.
On stocking 1000 BG/acre,
I think that we will probably use 300 BG/acre for two reasons. 1. Because we can afford an extra year or two to allow the BG population to stablize and start producing moderate year classes. 2. also 300/acre will lower the initial Bg/bass ratio, which is what we are shooting for to grow big BG.
I have heard the "one adult pair/acre" number before and it is also a viable option. Although a hatchery with adult BG would be needed to make the whole thing legal.
I plan on managing the pond for big BG, and I won't forget the genetic component. We will most likely have a strict slot limit to ensure that we always have good numbers of filetable fish.
Dave, would you stock the walleye with the BG one year before the bass? Or a year after the BG but before the bass?
