I've seen smaller markings like this on bass I assumed were scar tissue. Maybe it was a survior of a severe fungal or bacterial infection? Or a massive mole?

I also know black scar tissue surrounds the parsite known as "black grub" and you are not actually seeing the grub when you see the black markings but the body's defense to it.

However I think Bruce's assumption is entirely plausible especially since there are other unusual colors on the fish. But instead of a mutation could it a problem with the fish itself?
