I want your thoughts....
At the BassMaster Classic, watching the weighin twice, talking with pro anglers, observing now for several years, it struck me that with good planning, the right equipment and good backing, maybe someone of the angling prowess of a Bruce Condello could thrive on the professional fishing circuit. Maybe even compete.
I have watched Bruce fish, fished with Bruce and heard lots of Bruce stories.
Here's my thoughts....maybe some of us could sponsor the dentist from Nebraska in some tournaments and see if he can compete. Do it as Team PondBoss. Each of us has different talents and skills. Some promote, some donate, some help with administrative duties, scheduling, getting the boat from place to place...
I called Condello tonight. He is interested.
How about you guys?
Anyone interested in living vicariously through our favorite Nebraska dentist?
Heck, we might invest and maybe even get a return in a few years.
Your thoughts?

I will volunteer to be your Coangler Bruce. It would take a lot of time and effort but I bet that it could probably be done.

Bob, you have a PM.

It's about time one of those World Famous Bass Fishermen is somebody I've heard of.

Will Bruce still call them green carp or will he now call them green cash? \:D \:D \:D

Bruce in '08!

Bob, you asked for my thoughts about sponsoring Bruce on the tournament trail, so here goes even tho Ill get into trouble.
..
Ive always heard that the only way to ever really get to know a man is to spend a day on the water with him, and I have had that experience fishing with Bruce.
Sign me at the top of the list as his sponsor.

Now the rest of the story..dont be too harsh with me...

I personally have a strong dislike for tournament fishing, and in many cases tournament fishermen.
I have been cussed at, blasted off the water by 75 mph bass boats, and run off my favorite fishing spot by a camera crew, which incidentally produced the winning stringer for a Classic Bassmasters Tournament.

I realize that tournament fishing has resulted in light speed developments of high tech fishing equipment, but I cringe every time I see fishermen making money from public waters, racing up and down lakes, dressed in Nascar outfits.

Please forgive me I throw myself on the mercy of the court... ;\)

George,
I very much agree with you about the tournament fishing and fishermen. BUT, also would jump at the opportunity! you know what they say "If you cant beat 'em, join 'em."

I would help sponsor Bruce!

Also the Bassmasters classic looked like so much fun, my dad and I are planning on attending next year. Anyone else?

I'm really flattered by your offer, Bob. Heading up "Team Pond Boss" would be a dream for me.

I would only be able to consider it if I spent a year studying the process, and at least two years trying some local tournaments at my own expense to see how I would hold up against the big boys.

Instead of "Bruce in '08", it would be more like "Bruce in '11". \:\) \:\) \:\)

Well, I think Sue has given the most convincing arguement to be the fishing partner.

I'm in. Let me know what I need to do.

I've been thinking about this and doing some rough mathematical calculations. Being a full-time bass fisherman might cut too far into the amount of time Bruce spends fishing.

Bob -- I would do everything I could for Bruce to succeed. In other words, he'd mostly be on his own! \:\) I've seen him fish!

I believe I am the closest "pond boss forum guy" to next year's Classic in Shreveport/Bossier City. Does that qualify for anything. ;\)

Bruce, I think you would regret it, turning your beloved hobby into hard work. That's just me.

I am all for helping Bruce but I would rather fish with Sue if she can show me where those LMB were caught and with what. \:o -

We'd probably all rather fish with Sue than with Bruce.

I propose instead of a fishing type chair we put a dentist chair in the boat. Dr. Bruce can work on teeth at the tournament to support his fishing habits.

First of all, my ego is allowing me to enjoy every comment on this thread. You people are great.

Secondly, let me predict for you how I think I'd do if I fished ten tournaments against 100 really good bass pros.

Here's my finish by tournament:

97th

94th

99th

5th

90th

98th

6th

91st

95th

99th

I think that if the patterns were something that I was familiar with I'd do really well, but when it would come time to do something that I'm not experienced at, I'd get killed--at least for a couple of years until I refined my techniques.

The worst part is this. I did an analysis this morning of what my time availability looks like for the next few years while my kids are at home, and you know what I found? I found that I'd have to give up pondmeistering to be able to do this. \:\( \:\( \:\(

I think that I'd love to try a local tournament though.

Sue, do you think you could bring your boat out this way? \:D
