Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Types of fish to choose newpondowner stocking question

i have a new pond in eastern north carolina that is about .75 acres and has an average depth of 8 feet deep and the most shallow area is 4 feet deep.my goal is to eventually have large bass and large channel catfish. i also have two kids under 3 so in the future i want them to be able to enjoy catching native bluegill. i will also be using a fish feeder.can someone please suggest the proper numbers of each fish i should start with.thanks for any help you can offer.

first get the pond boss mag and the books. than work on getting some structure in the pond , lot of info under creating habitat. then in the fall put in regular bluegills and 10 lbs fathead mimmows. i would put in 6" gills so they spawn next year , couple hunderd. don't put bass and cats until you see some lots of small gills. feed them by hand until you have them feeding , then invest in a feeder. look under feeding fish for info on brands. put pot of coffee on and read everything on this site.

thanks for the help.do you think that 350 6 inch native bluegills would be too much to start off with or would it be smarter to go with around 300.

I would add that since you are further south in north carolina, you shouldn't need to spend the extra on larger bluegill to have them spawn in the spring. Add Your bass fingerlings around June, and your catfish either this fall or larger catfish 8 - 10" next fall. Some recommend 80/20 bluegill redear combo, which would be 300 bluegill, 75 redear.
