does anyone have a pond stocked with hybrid stripers? If you do would you recomend it to someone else?

Who sells hybrid stripers in the Gainesville Texas area?

They grow fast if they have plenty of food. As a predator they accept fish food well. Fun to feed and catch. Do not reproduce so you have good control of their numbers. Artificial feeding can suppliment for lack of preyfish. If you do not like them quit stocking them and after several years a conversion can be made to another type of fishery.

Just wondering what prey fish do you put with hyprid stripers.

Gainesville Texas or Georgia?
I stocked 4-6 fingerlings last fall in our N.E. Texas lake that are now 8-12 inchers - feeding Purina Aquamax 500.
I believe that more folks growning them in Georgia than in our area.

i put 50 in acre pond about year ago 4"- 6" , now there 12" or so ,2 lbs , i feed them too ,it's blast watch them slam food. caught couple sunday , nice big bellies on them and great fighters , can't wait till they get some size to them lol. i stocked bunch golden shinners with them , from my understanding they both like the open water. i'm told their great eating too, guess i'll find out soon, want take some out before they get to big .

One month ago I stocked 100 hybrids in a 3 year old 3 acre lake that had a resident population of BG and LMB. For additional forage, I also stocked Tilapia at the same time as the hybrids. Too early to tell if this experiment will be positive. Its very possible that the LMB will simply eat the 4-6 inch hybrids before they have a chance to mature. Tried to find larger hybrids but was not successful.

meadowlark, try building a cage and raising the hybrids to 8-10 inches before you release them. they do very well and grow out quickly in cages. there has been a lot of discussion about this on past posts. jb

Mlark - I think a fair number of the 4"-6"ers will survive the bass predation. Hybrids stay more in open water and can swim noticably faster than a largemouth. Hybrids make LMB look like "slow pokes". Keep us advised on their estimated survival rate.

I bought 15 hybrid stripers for my 1/4 acre pond from Overton's fish farm on I-45 between Centerville and Buffalo a couple of weekends ago. I don't know what the availability is because they only had a few the day I was there. hybrid stripers

I bought some HS from Todd Overton couple of month ago. But from what i hear, unlike other fish, these suckers have a tendency to swim downstream. We had some heavy rains and my pond overflowed through the pipes and over the spillway, so I may have bought my neighbor some expensive fish.

I did the same thing...i.e. purchased about 100 hybrids from T. Overton and have had some "toad strangler" rains in East Texas since then. You've got me worried that those hybrids went over the overflow also. I haven't seen any dead ones in the spillway outflow but the coons would get them before I would see them anyway. Guess we just have to wait and see?

how much do these fish cost? are they hard to find?

Todd Overton sells them 3-5" strippers for $1.75 Cheaper than a table dance ;-)

Lots of reports on hybrid stripers state that they get overstressed from being caught, and usually die afterward. Does anyone have experience in the catch and release of hybrid stripers that would contradict this?

of the 50 i put in , i found 3 dead the first year , i catch them and release them and have never seen one dead yet. i'm back there 2 3 times a day. other day found channel dead with hook cut off in his throat , made good coon bait lol

I had a barely 1/3 acre pond with one and two pounders in it. Fed every day. Hard to miss anything dead. Never found a one.

I stocked some 8-10 inch hybride stripers 3 weeks ago. Largemouth were stocked a year ago and are averaging 12 inches and about a pound.

I have three Stren feeders with mix of Aquamax500 and Purina Game Fish Chow. I have not seen feeding by the hybrids. My bluegill feed heavily. For those that feed hybrids, how long did it take for yours to start feeding? Thanks

i feed by hand twice a day , morning and evening. the wipers never seem to eat at the end of the dock like the cats will , they like the food out and away from the dock. they were probably in there for about a month or so before they started to eat. they were 6" fish.
